Karl Urban is originally from Wellington, New Zealand, but lives in Auckland at this time.

His birthday is 7 June 1972.

He's 6/1" (185 cm)

Karl has hazel-green eyes. Others have reported brown, but they're wrong.

Karl's father is a leather goods manufacturer (he had hoped that Karl would follow in his footsteps).

He's daddy to Hunter, born in November 2000. He also has another child, but I'm unsure of that child's name and birthday. His wife's name is Natalie.

Has a black lab named Irie (pronounced eye-ree) after a Bob Marley song (from the album Uprising).

Favorite film genre: Science Fiction (e.g., The Matrix and Star Wars).

Some favorite music: Bob Marley, Miles Davis, the latest Red Hot Chili Peppers album (Californication), Nick Cave, Pixies, Carole King, Lauryn Hill.

Hobbies: Fishing, surfing, golf, gardening (is into organic food). Karl is, and has almost always been, very active. He worked on his aunt and uncle's farm for many years doing odd jobs. He's a proficient horseback rider, which served him well when he filmed a show called Riding High, a children's show about horses. In addition, Karl also enjoys indoor rock climbing. In fact, he sometimes went rock climbing with Gabrielle herself, Renee O'Conner.

His first acting role was when he was 8 -- he had a line on a television show. He didn't act again until after high school. As he was preparing to attend Victoria University, he was offered a role in the NZ drama (soap opera) Shortland Street. He played ambulance driver Jamie Forrest. After filming the show (an evening soap opera), he attended the university for one year, then left to pursue his acting career. He landed a number of roles in the theater in Wellington.

He moved to Auckland where a number of guest roles in NZ television followed. One of his first roles was that of a heroin addict in the drama Shock in the Park. He was in a movie as well, entitled Once in Chunuck Bay (AKA Chanuck Bair). Other television roles followed, including a guest starring role in the series White Fang.

Karl played "Sweeper" in a Miramax/Scott Reynolds film called Heaven.

He filmed a pilot for a show called Amazon High, but it ended up being incorporated into the Xena episode, Life Blood.

In February/March 1998, he was in a play called The Herbal Bed at the Maidment Theatre in Auckland. He played the character Jett Lane. It also starred Jennifer Ward-Leland, Michael Hurst's wife and Boaddicea (and some other characters) on Xena.

August 1998, he played Mark Antony in Auckland Theatre Company's production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar in Auckland.

Karl attended the Plano, Texas, convention on 3 January 1998; made a guest appearance at the Burbank convention on 17 January; attended the 29-30 August, Cherry Hill, NJ, Creation Convention; attended the Sacramento convention on 20 September 1998; and was at the Chicago convention on 1 November 1998.

Karl played Paul the cameraman in the NZ film, Via Satellite. Danielle Cormack (Ephiny) was also in it. Karl was nominated for NZ Best Supporting Actor!

He attended the Santa Monica convention on 24 January 1999.

In 1999, he played the character of Foreskin, a rugby player, in the Auckland theatre production of Foreskin's Lament. I'd lament, too, with a name like that. This 4 April 2000 article titled "Foreskin's Lament" from The Dominion (posted at a site that promotes "genital integrity") discusses circumcision, but the Web site has also included a synopsis of the actual play at the bottom of the page.

Karl attended Creation's Decatur, GA, convention on 21 November 1999.

Karl has been cast as the lead in a new show called the Privateers. He plays Capt. Alan Dravyk. It is currently being shopped around.

Karl recently starred in the horror film, The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, which was screened at Cannes in May 2000.

Karl played the male lead in Harry Sinclair's long-awaited second film, The Price of Milk, released 14 February 2001 (Harry's first film was Topless Women Talk About Their Lives). It was shown at Cannes and he was nominated for best actor .

He attended Dragoncon on 29 June-2 July 2000, in Atlanta.

Karl is Eomer in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, which opened in December 2002, and in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which opened in December 2003.

Karl played Munder in Ghost Ship with Julianna Margulies. Dark Horizons has a great article on it. It opened on 26 October 2002 for Halloween.

According to the 12 March 2003 Daily Variety, Karl is signed on with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in Hollywood.

The Chronicles of Riddick, with Karl in the role of Vaako, was released 11 June 2004 (filming began on 9 June 2002).

The Bourne Supremacy, with Karl playing hitman Kirill, was released in July 2004 (filming begain 11 November 2003). The movie was filmed in Germany, Russia, and India.
