The Auckland Theatre 1999 Production of Foreskin's Lament

This play was written by Greg McGee. In this Auckland Theatre Company production of the play, Karl played the title character, Foreskin. This play, which is an analysis of New Zealand society and values, revolves around rugby players. This site gives a bit of an overview of the play (it's part of an article on circumcision). According to this partial essay, the play revolves around several types of conflict -- internal (within certain characters), external (between characters, including issues such as homosexuality versus heterosexuality and educated verus not educated), and literal (the rugby game). The essay states that theme of the play is "how do New Zealanders define their national identity when the old myths and the lore, playing the game, are no longer relevant."

The NZ Herald's review, Nothing lamentable in play's latest outing, was very favorable to the play itself and to Karl's performance.

These photos belong to the Auckland Theatre Company Web site and the photographer who took them (if I find out who it was, I will give that person full credit here).
